The Ashtanga Yoga Retreat is given by ASTA CAPLAN

Asta ventured into Astanga Yoga practice as a balancing element while still studying in the Finnish National Ballet School in 1999. She’s been practicing regularly since 2001 and after leaving her career as a professional ballet dancer studied and practiced with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Sharath Jois, Eddie Stern, Tim Miller, Mark and Joanne Darby, Rolf Naujokat and Lino Miele.

Asta received level 2 authorization to teach in 2012. She has completed teacher training with Sharath in Mysore 2014. In 2015 she attended a 3rd Series teacher training with Tim Miller in California and in 2017 she participated a teacher’s intensive with David Swenson

Due to great respect to the role of a teacher, Asta refrained from teaching for the first good decade of her practice. She has, however, always been willing to share her experience of the Ashtanga practice. Since 2009 she’s been joining her husband, Daniel Caplan, on teaching trips. In Helsinki, Finland, she taught Mysore classes in Moola in 2013. Asta was also invited to teach Ashtanga classes as a guest teacher in the Finnish National Ballet School in 2014.

Asta’s early training background in dance gives her a first hand insight to great range of movement in the body as well as to developing new qualities: Her aim is to help to create a balanced, aware practice that develops both strength and flexibility of the body as well as the strength and calm of the mind in a supportive and joyful atmosphere.

The years 2015-2017 Asta was the founding teacher for the Mysore-program at Jivamukti Yoga Berlin. Since the Autumn 2017 Asta has been and continues teaching according to the method ashtanga yoga is taught in K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore at Patrick Broome Yoga Studios in Munich.
